Smith Ski Team takes home a 1st and 3rd at Dew Tour stop #2
Snow Basin, UT
The second stop of the 2010 Winter Dew Tour rolled into Snow basin, UT last weekend and the Smith Team showed up ready to ski. The athletics took advantage of near perfect weather, and massive crowds donned to slopes to show their support.
Despite run difficulties from Smith's big bangers Kevin Rolland, Matt Margetts and Mike Riddle, newcomer Matt Duhamel laid down some nice tricks, in Half pipe, to take 8th place.
In the women's event, all eyes were on Sarah Burke as this was her first competition since breaking her back at X Games nearly a year ago. Burke came ready for action sporting her new Smith Aqua Fantasy I/OS goggles, and to prove that the top podium spot still belongs to her. In true fashion however, she had to make it hard for herself as she fell on her first run. With the pressure on, Burke proved why she is a pro and stomped a run that included a 540, 900 and 720. Once again, Burke beat the day's competitors, building her confidence for X Games and proving, to herself, that she is back on top after a long season out.
With Burke holding it down in the pipe, it was up to Bobby Brown to represent in slope style.
The 18 year old did just that, by setting high standards with his first run, landing him in first place going into the final round. Brown stepped it up again on his last run, and held the top spot until the final two skiers knocked him down to 3rd place. Still, a great result, and Brown once again delivered under pressure.
Now the athletes get a week or so to hone their skills before the X Games starts up in Aspen, CO. Check out the video below to catch up on all of the action.
