Anti-Reflective coating (AR coating)
Thin layer(s) applied to a lens to reduce the amount of reflected light and glare that reaches the eye.

Hard coated
This is a clear coating on both sides of the lens which offers high scratch resistance against both light abrasion and deep scratching.

MAR coating
Multi Anti reflection coating includes: scratch resistance, anti reflection, smudge and water resistance. Advantages: Night driving; reduces glare from on-coming headlights. It also acts as a filter for UV i.e. strip lighting, laptops and VDU screens.

Anti-Scratch coating
No eyeglass lens material — not even glass — is totally scratch-proof. However, a lens that is treated front and back with a clear, hard coating does become more resistant to scratching. Nowadays, most types of plastic lenses, including high index, polycarbonate and traditional plastic materials, have built-in scratch-resistant coatings.

Ultaviolet (UV) filter or coating
Just as we use sunscreen to keep the sun's UV rays from harming our skin, UV treatment in eyeglass lenses blocks those same rays from damaging our eyes. Overexposure to ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, retinal damage and other eye problems.
