Eyecare for Children

Accidents can happen to anyone and eye injuries are most common among children and adults under 25. Most injuries occur during sport and recreational activities, over 100 000 annually. The most surprising statistic of all is that about 90% of all these injuries could have been prevented. It is up to parents to acquaint themselves with potential situations and ensure that their children wear protective eyewear when playing sport or during other dangerous activities.

Sport and the Eyes

Children are taking part in sports activities at an early age. It is up to teachers, coaches and parents to provide the necessary equipment and advice so as to minimise the risks. Some examples of hazardous sports:

  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Racquetball
  • Baseball

When wearing contact lenses there is a greater risk involved and additional eye protection should be worn.
