Oakley Ski Goggles

Long before it became a global leader in sunglass technology, Oakley was obsessed with inventing the world's best goggles, and after 28 years Oakley are still pushing the limits in goggle design. Oakley goggles are engineered with innovative frame construction and industry-best impact resistance; performance meets protection in every corner.

After much research, Oakley Goggles are designed with four qualities in mind; High Definition Optics: superior optics, UV protection and impact protection, anti-fogging, downward and peripheral view, and comfort and fit.

High Definition Optics (HDO):

The Patented High Definition Optics® (HDO®) ensures wearers will experience:

  • the best optics with clearer sharper vision and without distortion or haze that leads to eye strain, discomfort, and headaches,
  • unrivalled impact protection to enjoy an active lifestyle without the fear of losing an eye and,
  • 100% UV protection to stay out longer and reduce the threat of developing cataracts, macular degeneration and cancer of the eye.

O Matter Frame:

This lightweight synthetic is engineered for all-day comfort, shock absorption and durability against the punishment of environmental extremes.

Comfort and Fit:

Urethane Frame:

All Oakley Goggles are manufactured using Urethane. Urethane is a form of plastic that is virtually unbreakable, known for its ability to hold its shape and stays flexible in various climates and conditions.

All Goggles have a textured interior frame. This helps disperse light away from the eyes to eliminate unnecessary distractions.

Face Foam:

Oakley Goggles are fitted with a soft face foam that is assembled in layers. Most Oakley Goggles will offer three layers of face foam for extra cushion and comfort. The layer closest to the skin is made from Polar Fleece, adding softness.

Adjustable Straps:

All Oakley Goggles have adjustable head straps. This allows for a customised fit for a variety of head shapes, sizes and dimensions.

Lens Technology:

XYZ Optics:

Oakley's patented lens geometry is designed to correct optical distortion commonly found in wrapped or raked lenses. XYZ Optics allows Oakley to produce optically pure lenses with wrapped back contour for a wide peripheral view and maximum protection. Currently, XYZ Optics can be found on the A Frame, Stockholm and Crowbar Goggles.

Lens Materials:

Oakley use a variety of materials when manufacturing its world class goggles. Oakley lens materials provide maximum protection and optimise clarity.

Plutonite Lens®:

Plutonite® lenses are made from the purest optical grade polycarbonate that is free of microscoic bubbles, black specks of carbon, and embedded dust. Designed and manufactured exclusively for Oakley, lenses have a scratch resistant coating to increase surface durability and reduce scratches. Plutonite® lenses:

  • have great strength and are vitually shatterproof,
  • are lightweight,
  • are 50% stronger, but much thinner than other lenses and,
  • inherently blocks 100% UVA, UVB and UVC radiation and harmful blue light. This protection is integral to the lens, it will not scratch off.

Plutonite® lenses can be found on the A Frame, Stockholm and Crowbar Goggles.

Lexan:

Lexan is a polycarbonate material that has high clarity and the ability to withstand impact. Lexan provides 100% UV protection that is integral to the polycarbonate lens material. Lexan is used on the outer lens of the O Frame Goggle. Lexan Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight and extremely strong.

Polaric Ellipsoid Lens Geometry:

Just as HDO Optics maintains peripheral clarity in dual-lens eyewear frames, Oakley's Polaric Ellipsoid geometry minimizes optical distortion in single-lens goggles. The patented geometry achieves precise orientation between the human eye and each point along the curvature of the lens. It allows Oakley to produce single-lens sports shields that maximize peripheral clarity while providing protection against sun, wind and side impact.

Acetate:

All inner lenses of Oakley Goggles are coated with Acetate, a high performance thermoplastic. Acetate is lightweight for comfort and treated with an anti-fog treatment to further reduce fogging.

Anti-Fogging:

Oakley recognise the importance of clear vision and use a number of methods to help combat fogging.

Anti-Fog Treatment:

All Oakley Goggles are engineered with an anti-fog treatment. The treatment is applied to the inner lens of the dual lens system, the first line of defence against fogging.

Dual Lens System:

Two lenses are stacked together and sealed one in front of the other. A space between the two lenses keeps warm air from mixing with cold air to help alleviate condensation and fogging on the surface.

Venting Systems:

All Oakley Goggles feature vents across the lenses. Strategically placed, the vents allow maximum air circulation over the inside of the goggles to reduce fogging and provide fresh air. These vents come in a variety of shapes and sizes; the bigger the vent, the better the airflow.

F2 Anti-Fog Technology:

The F2 Anti-Fog Technology eliminates haze for better visual clarity on the slopes.

F3 Anti-Fog Technology:

The F3 Anti-Fog Technology can absorb a minimum of 2ml of water, which prevents fog build-up.

Good Downward and Peripheral View:

Oakley Goggles use a wrapped and raked design, the benefits:

  • better downward view,
  • increased peripheral vision,
  • naturally contours to the face providing comfort and fit and,
  • improved impact protection

Lens Options:

While on the slopes, lenses that enhance performance and depth perception are a must. Whether you are skiing, snowboarding or participating in other winter sports, optimal vision for changing light conditions is crucial. Oakley offers a variety of lens options in contrast colous.

Non-Iridium:

Standard non-iridium lenses are a good all-purpose lens and are ideal for medium to low light conditions.

Iridium:

Iridium is a specially formulated lens coating that allows transmission of specific light conditions. The coating acts like a mirror to reflect glare and increase contrast.

Polarised:

Polarised lenses are the most effective way to cut down reflected glare. Polarised lenses shield your eyes from reflections off water, snow, or shiny objects. These lenses are perfect for bright, high glare conditions. Please note that polarised lenses can make slushy snow look like powder, fresh snow. Polarised lenses absorb 99% of the glare reflected off the snow and make it difficult to sometimes distinguish patches of ice from regular snow.
