Maui Jim started out as a small company selling sunglasses on a beach in Lahaina, Hawaii in the 1980s. Inspired by the beauty of Maui they set out to create lenses that would not only protect the eyes from harmful UV rays, but provide more vibrant colours of the world like you've never seen it before. Seeing a need in the market for a lens that could combat intense glare and harmful UVA and UVB rays, they engineered the PolarizedPlus2 lens.
Hyper-Precise Polarisation By fusing the polarising film into the lens itself, the result is absolute clarity and nearly complete elimination of glare reflected from any flat, smooth or shiny surface. PolarizedPlus2 delivers the highest level of efficiency in blocking horizontal glare, coupled with an anti-reflective coating applied to the inside of the lens, the Maui Jim lenses are one of the best in the world.
Bi-Gradient Mirror The original Maui Jim Bi-Gradient mirror lens was inspired by the Inuit snow goggles. The Inuits cleverly made their goggles from animal bones, they hand crafted horizontal slits into the bones, which worked to block out glare from the snow preventing snow blindness. This same concept is applied to the Maui Jim Bi-Gradient lens using a mirror coating, creating the horizontal slit, the mirror squints for you to reduce the glare from above and below, allowing your eyes to relax.
Colour Enhancement Maui Jim infuse their lenses with a patented blend of rare Earth elements to enhance the red, green and blue light waves. These elements together help to increase saturation of colours that we see and filter out the colours that cause interference, resulting in a world that pops with colour and comes to life.

Water & Oil Proof Maui Jim apply a permanent waterproof and oleophobic (oil repellent) coatings to all of their lenses so that they won't wear off over time. Maui Jim Sunglasses will quickly shed water and snow, and any smudges or fingerprints on the front or back will wipe away easily.
